Ease of use

Great peace of mind, but…..
I got this specifically to give me some peace of mind while hiking the northeast US high peaks in the winter. For that, it does exactly what I had hoped. However, as an avid and experienced hiker, the cost per month is high. Essentially, expecting to pay a high fee monthly for something you intend never to have to use is a bit ridiculous. Great insurance, great product, but I wonder if it would be a better option to perhaps charge a higher cost in case of emergency need. Or at least make it easi...

Works as advertised
I bought this for use in MT where cell service can be non-existent. My wife is now able to track my progress and we can communicate via text messages. One issue I know of, the strap the carabiner attaches to is screwed into the mini can back out and it can fall off your pack if its attached to the outside of your pack.

Great addition to my outdoor gear
I bought this about a month ago and have already used it several times on mountaineering expeditions to allow my circle to track my route through Garmin map share. This is also essential for staying in touch via messaging using satellites when my phone has no service. It is cheap piece of mind. My only issue is when switching phones to allow my son to use it. This process could be made far more seamless as it is somewhat confusing.

The device is good and small and quick. But wow Garmin has miles to go when it comes to UI. People can’t email or text me in a normal way. The live share service would be a good solution but people can only see your location and not contact you. Thought it would be nice tool in the toolbox. But well thought out and preloaded messages make it easy on the device. The phone app is super. But like having the ability to use easily if phone is down

This device gives me a great peace of mind while working solo in a very rugged landscape. My only concern is my inability to send messages to people who are not signed up for the Garmin Messenger app. I have researched all the known issues to impede successful communication and continue to have difficulties. As a satellite messenger for communication when away from cell service, it's great. It does everything it is advertised to do. It is not by any means fast, though; but that is not a flaw of the inReach Mini 2 itself, just a caveat of satellite technology. Messages that you send may take up to 5-7 minutes to send to the receiver (person you are talking to), as it takes time for an Iridium satellite's orbital alignment to allow for your message to send.
