Poor Quality Control

I replaced 11 Kidde units after 12 years of flawless operation due to age. In my first year - 3 of the 11 have gone bad, going off for no reason with false alarms and required replacement. First Alert wasn't helpful b/c they had no stock. Units have been cleaned, etc. Go elsewhere.

Open and missing pieces in several units purchased

Bought two smoke detectors, both appeared to be new, and both were missing differnect parts and were clearly returns put back on the shelf by Lowes. After calling and speaking to the store manager of the Butler NJ location, Cindy, I got the feeling that my discussion was not appreciated, that Lowes didn't recognize that people can die in a fire due to them putting tampered with and returned units back on the shelf, and that my time was not valued by Lowes. As expected

Replaced detectors originally install when building house. Easy to install and test. Do they work? Thank God I have had an opportunity to check that yet. That's the reason for only 4 stars.

Excellent Dual Smoke Detectors

Excellent so far....easy to install and no issues with false alarms at all

Features are excellent but the only drawback is that the green led is tiny. If its not very dark in the room, you really need to angle yourself to even see it that it is on. I didn't even think it was working when I first connected it.

Great upgrade and replacement

I replaced four 18-year-old firex sensors (discovered in our new home) with these and I feel much better now. The old ones were long past their service life and surely no good while these provide both types of smoke sensing. They're also a lot better looking than the old manila-colored detectors and the little green LED isn't too bright in the bedrooms at night--another plus. Best Overall Smoke Detector

One of the few dual-sensor smoke detectors, capable of detecting both slow and fast burning fires. Great price to boot!

First Alert Smoke Detector

So far, so good. My husband was able to replace our old smoke detectors with these First Alert smoke detectors himself. He said it was like changing a light fixture (for all of you do-it-yourselfers!).

Smoke Detector

This was a replacement that I had to make because it had an expiration date (I didn't know that). This is the second I have in the house and both had to be replaced. That says something about the product. The best part is that, I didn't have to reinstall it on the ceiling as the previous one fit like a glove to this replacement. That is cool.

Easy Installation

This detector was a good replacement for my previous hardwired detector. It can be used both as a stand-alone and as a connected detector system. The battery backup adds a safety factor in the event the AC power source is compromised in an emergency.

Dual sensors offer best protection

Bought this model because the dual sensor offers best protection from fire and Carbon monoxide protectors should be close to the floor for optimal protection. The added bonus was the battery tray that opens for replacing batteries without taking down unit.

BRK dual sensor smoke detector

Easy to install to electrical box but some electrical wiring skill needed to hook connector pigtail to house 115vac wiring. Well rated for performance by leading consumer. Tone only, no voice. Would have purchased Kidde product so that wiring wouldn’t have to change , but those products are in short supply.
