Would RecommendThis is exact replacement for First Alert device but it will not connect to existing ceiling frame and must be replaced with the one provided. The wire connecter is fine.

False alerts galore
Would Not RecommendOut of the 6 units, 3 have given false alerts in the first 2 months. All of them in the middle of the night. Junk.

It was very easy to install

Quick replacement for failing original
Would RecommendProduct works fine. Even though it looked to be a direct replacement for original BRK since house was new, I had to replace the original bracket with the new bracket. They look identical, but just slightly different in size. Didn't need to use the new wiring (old wiring plugged in fine). The original lasted almost 20 years.

Easy to install
Would RecommendWe bought this single unit because we needed to supplement the box of six units we purchased when updating/upgrading our outdated alarms.

An easy upgrade
Would RecommendWe were long overdue to replace our wired, battery backup smoke alarms and decided to upgrade to the hardwired, battery backup smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. After turning off the power supply on the circuit breaker that controls all of our detectors, the swap was relatively straightforward. The connectors from the original units were compatible with the new units. It was just a matter of unplugging the old and plugging in the new. We did find that the plugs were a little tricky to d...

Not to good
Would Not RecommendThe tolerance between the ceiling attachment bracket and the detector was terrible. Before installation it took a major effort to remove the bracket from the detector since it was so tight. Significant filing was needed on the bracket to remove a lot of plastic so the detector could be readily attached. Otherwise you couldn’t attach the detector to the bracket without the bracket being twisted off the ceiling.

dical6 Could have been simpler
I purchase the same unit I had before and the thought I could just attach it to the existing base. But the base size had changed and now I had to get a screw driver and undo and then reattach the new one. Very disappointed as I did not have to travel so far to get this brand unit if the base and unit were same size as before as I have 14 units to change and it would have made it much simpler. There was nothing new about this unit than the last one and the other one was a bit smaller.
