Don't buy the first alert smoke detector BRK
Would Not RecommendI purchased three about 6 months ago, and last month one started beeping, needing a battery replacement. I took out the battery thinking I could replace it with a 9 volt or AA battery to discover it has a special battery with wires soddered to wires that plug into the unit. No one has these batteries, including Lowes. Their solution was for me to buy a replacement smoke detector. They would not replace the orginal one.

If you have pets … reconsider / flashing green
Would Not RecommendBought 4 of these from Lowe’s to replace 4 hardwired ones that were 20 yrs old. However it’s been 1 week since installing them, pretty easy to install but we noticed at night especially the units will flash a bright green light onto ceiling and floor about 6 inches every 5 mins or so.
