Almost useless now

I was hoping that I'd just bought a bad package of these but after reading reviews of other long time users, it looks like the quality has really dropped on these. I've been using this product for about 10 years and have been very happy with them. This last package contained filters that are too small to fit up in my ceiling intake. They drop down onto the grill and the air can be pulled up around the filter instead of going through it. If this is what I find in the store again, I'll be shopping...

Specifications???

How about some real filter specifications like MERV or FPR or MPR or CFMs rating specifications rather than "Packaging Info". Kind of ironic since 3M created MERV.

flow arrow questionable

Air Flow arrow points the wrong way

Second package in a row where air flow arrow implies screen side on the inlet side of the filter. This can't be right - is it?

3M Changed Quality

I have been buying these Basic 3M filters for years and when we built a new home, I continued to use this filter. Recently the look of the filters changed so I knew it had been re-engineered. Then the air returns with the new filters became very noisy and the filters were nearly being sucked into the duct. Cheap for a reason

Filters are inexpensive, which is a plus. However, the actual filter is about a quarter of an inch thick so they won't last very long. The cardboard frame fits well in the slot, but the actual filter is lost between the edges.

Excellent filter with 1 flaw

Have used these filters for several, several years with excellent filtering results. Have 2 overhead return vents that I change the filters monthly. Now for the flaw...filter is about 1/4 inch short of stated measurement in both length and width. When the unit comes on the filter is sucked up to the metal framework with a loud popping noise.Irritating in the middle of the night when it is quiet!

Merv equivelant.

Been searching high and low for a polyester filter that flows as free as possible. Too many people get hung up on what the filter will filter out and forget that a furnace has to breath too. Otherwise the blower motor works too hard and is more apt to burn out as well as the a/c a-coil being more prone to freeze up. Do some internet research. My furnace has a static pressure issue ( more furnaces do than people realize) and wanted something better than the spun fiberglass filters that dont reall...

No longer have our size

We been by Filtrete filter for 10 years. Now they longer make our size???? ( 21.5 x24x1) What are we to do, make our own?

Great product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a 16 month old baby girl. I have two filters I have to replace on my furnace unit. Since my little girl was born she has only been sick with a cold I think it's been twice. I think it's because of the help the filters play in what they capture and I want to say thank you for helping keep my family happily healthy. Thanks for your product and keep up the good work!

My opinion the quality control of these filters is non existent or the controllers are being paid off which is normal with goods made in Mexico. Poor quality - undersized and dangerous leak of filtration can lead to air system break down.

air filter

by cutting down on the amount of cardboard around the rim it does not hold tight in the filter area, thus making a thud noice everytime the ac kicks in

Basic Pleated 3M "3" Pack

I have been buying these filters for 10 years and have loved the quality, what they catch and the cost for a 3 pack. I always get two packs to have 3 changes. I change them between 2 to 3 months apart regularly. However; since the change that was made in their actual "1" inch width NOT so satisfied with the 3 Pack anymore. They are so thin they whistle ALL the time and it is so annoying when trying to sleep. I haven't given up on Filtrete yet, I returned the unopen packs I had and purchased ...

Gets the job done

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This filter really gets the job done.. I've noticed it caught some of the small dust and it caught the dust balls that was floating in the air along with the pet air. I'll surely recommend this filter to anyone!

Quality has gone downhill

Bought the same ones I have been for years, or so I thought. Went to install them only to find they shrunk them another 1/8" all the way around. The last ones the perimeter was very sturdy, these are junk. Had bend retaining tabs so they would stay in frame. The smaller size now allows more air the chance to bypass the filter. AC Filter

This is a large filter and hard to find at times. My system requires two different sizes and I always buy two. System works best with clean ac filters such as this one.

Decline in Quality

The latest batch, in a 3-pack, has beveled edges. This means that they do not fully fit the receptacle and are not held securely in place. They just wobble with the airflow.

NEW DESIGN MAKES WHISTLING NOISES

THESE USED TO BE GREAT BUT SINCE THEY CHANGED THE DESIGN THEY DONT FIT AS GOOD AS THEY DID AND NOW MAKE A WHISTLING NOISE IN THE DUCT.

Undersized

I've used these filters for a while but quality control is slipping or a decision has been made to reduce the filter size. I use 2 18x18 filters in my air return. They fit well in the past but the last 2 packages I bought do not fit as well. I have to use tape to seal the gap in the middle. The new ones measure 17 1/2 x 17 1/2. Looking for another brand that fits better.
