What Customers Are Saying

The ceiling socket has a mixed reception. While some find it easy to install and appreciate the outlet feature, many report issues with the product's durability and quality. The plastic construction is described as flimsy and brittle, leading to cracking or breaking during installation. Problems with loose or stripped mounting screws and terminals are also common. The reviews suggest the porcelain version may be a more durable alternative, despite the higher cost.

Dangerous If Not Installed Carefully

Would Not Recommend

I bought this to add an outlet to a similar fixture. The wiring uses 12 gauge and I chose to use the screw terminals. I was immediately hesitant about breaking something when I could not firmly tighten the screws without the rest of the flimsy terminal assembly moving around. When I pushed the unit up into the box to secure it the ground wire popped loose, hit the hot terminal and shorted out the circuit. The terminals are dangerously close to each other and do not keep 12 gauge wire securely i...

Good Bargain

Would Recommend

I use this product in the basement. The built-in plug comes in handy. The plastic is very strong and resist breaking when accidentally hit.

Nice replacement for OLD ceramic light sockets!

Would Recommend

We have older home with several of the old ceramic light sockets in closets, stairwells, etc. One of them just quit working, so I picked this up to replace it. The old socket had unusual screw mounting pattern where it mounted to ceiling, but the new one had multiple patterns - just pick which pattern you need and "knock out" the plastic for the hole pattern you need. (Plus, now I have a plug in the closet without having to run wire)! Works great - going to get more to replace the rest! (ALWAYS ...

Great replacement unit.

Would Recommend

The device that this unit replaced was 53yrs old. While I would be surprised if this one lasted half that time, it is a solid, well built device that was easy to install and would adapt to a couple of different ceiling mount boxes. I had the device replaced in less than 10 minutes and my Mom was thrilled to find that it also had receptacle socket that she can plug her iron into. (It was installed in her laundry room.

Gets the job done

Would Recommend

This produce was only a simple light socket with pull chain. I liked the ease of wiring, the sturdy plastic base (lighter and more efficient than porcelain, and overall quality of the fixture. It went up without a problem.

Poor quality! Very brittle! Poor durability!

Would Not Recommend

The ceiling socket is made out of very brittle plastic. I've purchased this item on two different occasions & have had to return damaged ones on both occasions & I still have two more yet to return because they broke during installation. Also, I was in the store today & there are broke ones on the shelf. Positive Lowes associates have always been very helpful! Example today, the Lowes associate when returning. No problems, she even apologized for the inconvenience. The My Lowes card certainly m...

Not what I hoped for.

Would Not Recommend

I saw this light fixture and I thought, "gee, finally what I hoped for." What I wanted was a fixture I could put in my attic, that the plug would control a fan as well. I bought it, hooked it up real nice, plugged in the attic fan, and to my dissappointment..... The pull chain only controls the bulb, but not the plug. Change the design so the plug and the bulb works with the chain switch.

Wiring

Would Recommend

Wired my home with #12 AWG and therefore use for all 120 volt receptacle and lighting circuits. #12 is a little tough on the terminating screws be careful. The neutral and ground terminals are too close together and had to use #12 green insulated wire for pigtail. When wiring if the neutral and ground are shorted it may trip a GFCI circuit breaker.
