No, do not top coat a concrete countertop poured with QUIKRETE® Countertop Mix – Tint Base (No. 1106-81) with just white Portland cement alone. The use of “straight” Portland may shrink, which would result in cracking of the top coat. White Portland cement is typically mixed with aggregates and other ingredients to make concrete, mortar, or stucco. The color of the aggregate will have an effect on the finished product color. A minimum skill level of intermediate is required for a basic concrete countertop (i.e. simple rectangular shape, no sink cut outs, etc.) while an advanced skill level is required if any added detailing is included in the design.
