Temperature conditions when making quikrite concrete paving molds

A fast setting concrete mix, such as QUIKRETE Fast Setting Concrete Mix, is best to use in cold weather, which, for the purposes of concreting, may be considered to be weather that is below 50 dF, or near freezing at night. It is important in the cold weather to take certain precautions: 1) Mix the concrete with water before placing the material, 2) store the bagged concrete in a warm temperature before use, and use warm water to mix, 3) protect the concrete from freezing for at least 48 hours for a fast setting concrete using plastic sheeting, insulated blankets, or other means. If these preventive measures cannot be taken, it would be best to wait for warmer weather.

It is possible to make QUIKRETE in cold New England weather. The site for the pathway will need to be cleared of ice. QUIKRETE® Crack Resistant Concrete Mix will be more resistant to cracking due to freezing/thawing. Make sure anything that comes into contact with the concrete is warmed up, including the water. Try to use the least amount of water necessary to get a workable mix. The pathway will need to be protected from freezing for the first three days after pouring.
