Can it be used to color thin set?

We have used Quickrete’s liquid cement color-charcoal to tint white thin sets and medium bed mortar mixes used to set shower wall tile. The most readily available (on-hand) thin set products sold at the big box construction supply stores are white in color. We have done installs of dark colored tiles w dark color grout and even though we take great care in performing a tidy application it does help to tint the thin set to a medium grey color as to reduce the possibility of white thin set peaking through here and there. This product has worked well *for us* in small quantity when used to color DRY thin set and medium bed mortar mixes by Custom Building Products and Mapie. *Note:it does not work well to color ProLite* by CBP. One bottle will color 3-4 50lb bags or dry mortar mix. -Be sure to Add the colorant to the water before mixing in the dry thin set for ease of mixing the color throughout your end product.

QUIKRETE® Liquid Cement Color - Charcoal (No. 1317-00) may be used to color a gray cementitious based product by blending with the clean mixing water before mixing in with the gray cementitious based product. Please consult with the thinset mortar manufacturer to confirm that the use of QUIKRETE® Liquid Cement Color – Charcoal to pigment their product is acceptable. We recommend trialing small batches to experiment. Evaluate the color after at least 24 hours of curing to determine if the color meets your expectations before initiating full scale project.
