Was this Answer Helpful ?If you want a product to essentially use as an overlay for your existing block and concrete patio, from ½” to 2” thick, QUIKRETE Sand/Topping Mix #1103 may be effective. The existing surfaces must be clean, unsealed, uncoated, porous, and sound. Any control joints must be maintained. It is suggested the QUIKRETE Concrete Acrylic Fortifier #8610, be blended with the Sand/Topping Mix, to replace a portion of the water, before applying the Sand/Topping Mix. If a thicker overlay would be possible, the use of QUIKRETE Crack Resistant Concrete Mix #1106 is suggested as it would allow a thicker overlay of 3-4”, which may create a more stable patio, with less potential for the existing surface to create a ghosting effect. The re-designed patio will need to slope away from your house for drainage. If you plan to butt the re-designed patio up against the house, there is potential for future cracking as the overlay will expand and contract with temperature changes. If you create expansion joints between the house and the patio using QUIKRETE Expansion Joints, Model #691703, it will better allow the expansion / contraction to take place without cracking.
