What is the heat tolerance for this product? Can it be used to fill gaps around the front of an interior fireplace?

QUIKRETE® Quick-Setting Cement is suitable up to approximately 190 Fahrenheit. Portland cement, the base material out of which Quick-Setting Cement is made, can degrade in temperatures as low as 200 degrees F. Because of this, products used within the firebox of a fireplace, or near high temperatures, should be made of refractory cement, which is designed to be able to withstand exposure to high temperatures, rather than Portland cement. For repairing damaged firebrick and tuck-pointing damaged fireplace mortar joints, you may consider QUIKRETE® Fireplace Mortar (No. 8620-21). For new installations of fire bricks you will want to purchase the specified refractory mortar.
