Landscape fabric has been around for decades and one would think that it is all pretty much the same, but mousetraps have been around much longer and we are still looking to improve on the product. So it is with landscape fabric. I have used fibrous mats and woven mats and now I am presented with the Jobes Powergrid mat which appears to be a composite of black fine fibers encased on both sides by an overlaying clear plastic honeycomb keeping these fine fibers in place. The manufacturer claims th...
Generally excellent fabric
I'll start off by saying I use this type of product as a mulch in my vegetable garden to keep down weeds, instead of using it in "landscaping". As I got this too late in the season to use it for this purpose I'm just going to give my impressions. First, it's very strong. It doesn't rip easily. It also is very moisture permeable so it would be great for a flower bed. It lays flat. It's almost transparent so it will let a lot of light through so you definitely need to cover it with something like ...
Only time will tell
I have typically used a more commercial type of weed barrier. This weed fabric was noticably thinner than the commercial types being about half of the thickness. The material feels strong as it took a fair amount of effort to rip the fabric by hand, but it cut easily with siccors to fit it against a curved edging profile. It does appear that water will drain through the fabric easier than commercial fabric which will be a plus around plants. It has a fifteen year life span so only time will tell...
Basic Weedbarrier
This is a good basic weed barrier probably best for beds that get some but not a lot of prolific weed activity. The material was easy to work with and time will tell regarding its effectiveness as it was just installed. When held up to the light, it is possible to see through the material....leading to my concern (in comparison to other weed barriers I have used in the past that can not be seen through) that tenacious weeds will be encouraged to find a way through the barrier regardless of the u...
Jobes Landscape Fabric
After receiving the fabric, the most difficult part was clearing away the wood mulch I had around the rose bushes! The fabric is really lightweight, but seems to breathe easier than some of the other types of landscape fabric that I have seen. It was very easy to unroll and cut. The main thing you want to do is to clear the ground really good before laying, and to make sure that you have overlapped the fabric to insure that no light comes through to the soil underneath. Overall I feel like this ...
straightforward, easy to apply and stays put
Nice product. comes on a roll 3 foot wide and is pretty easy to cut and put down. Heavy enough that a light breeze doesn't pick it up and move it. Best to get the ground staples to hold it in place if there is more than a light breeze. Nice cover and fairly easy to cut to put in plants if you are trying to landscape with minimal foliage. Seems to hold up well to rain since it rained pretty heavily a day ago and the mulch I put down over the top of the fabric didn't move much. Will have to wait a...
Seems great. Time will tell...
We received this landscape mat to review. As it has come at the end of summer we have not actually used it. However, we have used similar products in the past and this one looks much better than what we have used previously. Late Fall is when we mow down all our landscaping in the front yard and when we complete the scalping we will install this product. This coming Spring when our planting starts to sprout we will amend this review to report on the effectiveness of weed control. We live in t...
Impressed
This was my first roll of Jobe's Powergrid landscape cloth and I have to say I really like it when comparing to other fabrics I have used in the past. It has a kind of fused on plastic reinforcing layer that makes it quite durable and easy to stake down snug. It cuts easily with a razor knife or scissors and resists tearing. I have installed with a couple inches of wood chips and in the short time it's been down, there have been no issues with water drainage or weeds. Seems to be a pretty good p...
Added soil stability
I used the fabric material to keep weeds from growing thru an added parking area for our home. There is a slight incline to the street, so I used the fabric stakes I purchased to hold the fabric in place. I added 2 inches of crushed limestone and packed the ground thoroughly. 2 days later we had a 7” rain storm, and to my surprise, none of the limestone had eroded away. It has been 2 weeks, many parked cars, and several rain showers, the limestone has not eroded or displaced. Good product an...
Nice weight
Received this product, had to wait a bit due to weather conditions before installing. It seems to be working well. It is keeping the weeds out but yet allowing plenty of water to the plantings. It is a very nice weight fabric. Does not seem that it will tear easy which I have had in the past. I have used Jobes in the past it was a different weight and worked better than others I had used so was happy to give this a try and so far am pleased with the results. I would purchase this product again.
