Manufacturing/design defect. Worthless warranty.
As others have said, the receiver fails to work without pinpoint precision. The receiver is inside the fan assembly and not user adjustable. The company says their "lifetime warranty" does not cover the receiver. Harbor Breeze is off my list of fan companies.
