Allamanda is an adorable shrub that blooms almost all year long with trumpet-shaped yellow flowers. These flowers bring butterflies (and occasionally hummingbirds) to the garden. It has low care needs, too, tolerating heat, drought, deer, and rabbits. It can reach about 4 feet tall and wide. It blooms year-round in frost-free areas; in the North, it blooms constantly from spring to fall. Light: Grows best in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sun per day) or part sun (morning shade with afternoon sun). Water: Drought tolerant once established but benefits from regular watering. Pruning: Can be pruned to keep it a desired size or shape but doesn’t require regular pruning. Typically, deer- and rabbit-resistant. Excellent in landscape beds, borders, or in mass plantings, and can also be used as a hedge or foundation plant. Zones 10-11, but can be grown anywhere as a landscape annual or in container gardens. Exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
