A bit twisted

The rectangular ends were clocked ~20 deg off so wouldn't both fit into the post holes, on both rails purchased. Had to use a large pipe wrench to twist the rail to force it in. On plus side, half the cost of those at a specialty lumber store.

Cedar rails aren’t what the used to be.

The last time I bought cedar split rails at Lowes was 3 years ago. I had no problem finding enough quality rails to finish my fence project. However, I went in today and found a pile of what mostly resembled kindling. Thin, spindly slivers of wood not really worth the effort of sorting through. Out of around 35-40 pieces I found 7 that were acceptable. Not sure if it’s a problem with availability or laxness on the part of Lowes materiel acceptance personnel. Pick out the items yourself

I ordered the split rail fence in advance. They put it on the truck for me. When I got home most of the rails were small and skinny. Posts were ok but I should have picked out everything myself. Looks like they had a lot of undersized rails and give them to preorders. I won’t make that mistake again. First time I’ve been disappointed by Lowe’s
