How to Make a Cat Tree
- Sketch a Design: Begin with a rough sketch to visualize your ideal DIY cat tree. Consider the number of floors, platforms, their arrangement and the overall height you intend to build. Consider spaces specifically for climbing, scratching and resting.
- Measure Space: Locate an area in your home where you plan to place the DIY cat tree and measure it carefully to ensure the design fits well within the space without becoming an obstruction.
- Custom Features: Because it's a DIY project, you can use your creativity to customize it further. Think about adding unique features like hiding spots or adding toys for your cat to keep your cat engaged.
Tip
When designing the cat tree, consider your cat's size and agility. Stable, broad bases and solid posts are essential for safety.
Caution
Always wear safety goggles and gloves when cutting with a saw and handle the tool carefully to prevent injuries.
Tip
The recommended base size is at least 2 x 2 feet to stabilize the cat tree.
- Cutting Posts: PVC pipes or wood posts should be measured and cut precisely to fit your design. Ensure that each item fits appropriately on the base and platforms.
- Wrap in Sisal: Begin at the base of a pillar and tightly wrap the Sisal rope around, ensuring tight overlaps. Use a staple gun to attach the sisal rope between every few wraps. To safeguard your cat, make sure you don't leave any exposed staple ends.
- Fasten Posts to Base: Place each post on the base according to your design. Drill holes and use screws to secure each post to the base.
- Attach Platforms: Put each platform on top of its corresponding posts. Screw them together to ensure stability and support for your cat's weight.
- Cutting Materials: Measure and cut carpet scraps or faux fur to cover the base and platforms. Allow additional material to encircle the edges.
- Staple Material: Carefully staple the fabric to the base and all of the platforms. To protect your cat's safety, make sure the fabric fits properly and that no staples protrude.
- Hanging Toys: Attach fun interactive toys or dangling items to the platforms for your cats to have fun.
- Interactive Additions: To keep your cat entertained, add extra interactive features such as spring balls, tunnels or hanging ropes.
- Place Cat Tree in a Comfortable Area: Place the cat tree where your cat already spends time. This familiarity will help your feline friend adjust and get comfortable in the new space.
- Use Catnip or Treats: First, sprinkle some catnip or arrange some treats on different platform levels of the cat tower to entice your cat to spend time in its new paradise. Finally, your ”how to make a cat tower” operation is successfully completed.
