You'd be surprised how much dust can accumulate on your artificial Christmas tree over 11 months even when stored properly. Excess dust can clog connections and cause a pre-lit Christmas tree to go dark. Give your tree a quick cleaning this year to increase its lifespan and make your décor shine.

Dust the Christmas Tree Stand

Use a duster or dry microfiber cloth to wipe down the Christmas tree stand, legs and bolts. This will ensure everything fits together properly and gives your tree a sturdy base. The last thing you want to do is hang irreplaceable ornaments on a wobbly Christmas tree.

Wipe the Cord

Before you plug in your faux Christmas tree for the first time this year, use your dry cloth to wipe down the cord and plug. If your Christmas tree has lights, it’s also important to wipe down the button or clicker to keep things working properly.

Remove Dust from Connection Points

Start with the bottom section of your tree and use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe dust away from any connection points. You can also use canned air duster to remove dust from the inside of the connection points you can’t reach with the cloth.

Wipe the Branches

Wipe each branch on your artificial Christmas tree with a dry microfiber cloth. If you have a flocked Christmas tree, the microfiber cloth may stick to the branches. Instead, use a new paint brush to remove dust from each branch.

While this may seem tedious, excess dust can weigh down your tree and harm the lights and connectors. This is also an important step if anyone in your home suffers from asthma or allergies. Dust-free branches also help keep your precious Christmas ornaments clean.
