Learn why Pit Boss pellet grills and pellet smokers are the perfect choices for anyone who’s new to outdoor cooking. We’ll also highlight some must-haves for your next barbecue from the Pit Boss collection.

What Are Pellet Grills?

Sponsored by Pit Boss.

Rather than using wood, charcoal or gas for cooking, pellet grills are fueled by proprietary wood pellets made of compressed hardwood saw dust, which creates even heat and a clean smoke. You can use a pellet grill to bake, smoke, grill and braise foods. In fact, you can cook many items that are typically prepared in a standard indoor oven on your Pit Boss.

How Do They Work?

Cooking with indirect heat, Pit Boss pellet grills are equipped with a small storage compartment known as a hopper that feeds fuel pellets to a firebox using a motorized auger. A digital thermostat regulates the cooking temperature, and motorized fans circulate heat and smoke throughout the cooking chamber, creating a convection cooking environment.

Why Are Pellet Grills Becoming So Popular?

Wood pellet grills have been steadily increasing in popularity over the last few years, and you only need to try one to understand why. Here are some of the most common reasons outdoor cooking enthusiasts love Pit Boss pellet grills:

  • Ease of Use: Pellet grills are equipped with features that make grilling simple and approachable even for beginners, including easy-to-use controls and precise temperature regulation.
  • Fast Cooking Time: Pellet grills preheat much faster than other types of barbecue grills and maintain a more even temperature. These features cut down on cooking time, so you can put down the spatula and get back to your guests sooner.
  • Versatility: Because pellet grills have such precise temperature controls, foods can cook more evenly and within a wider range of temperatures. You can sear foods with high heat, cook low and slow and even smoke, allowing you to prepare a wider variety of dishes with the same grill.
  • Safety: Pellet grills cook without an open flame, which greatly reduces the risk of grease fires and flare ups.

What About Pellet Smokers?

While you can also use a standard pellet grill to smoke foods, Pit Boss also offers standalone wood pellet smokers with multiple cooking racks and additional surface area for cooking large racks of ribs, chickens, turkeys, side dishes and more. And with the same reliable, convenient temperature controls and convection cooking as their pellet grills, smoking experts and beginners alike can enjoy success with their favorite recipes.
