Sand the plywood with 120-grit and then 180-grit sandpaper. Lightly round over any sharp edges and corners. Wipe clean and apply two coats of paint (Ultra White shown).
Download the Slide-Out Gift-Wrap Station Layout Guide. Measure and mark the eye screw locations and drive the eye screws where shown. The eyes should be facing each other across the length of the board, as shown here on the finished project.
Avoid driving the eye screws too far into the plywood. Mark each one just less than 1/2 inch from the tip. Then start the hole with an awl or sharp nail.
Cut three 5/16-in dowels to 40 inches long. From the scraps, cut three pieces 2 inches long. Glue the end of the 40-inch dowel to the center of a 2-inch dowel to form a T shape and tape the pieces together until the glue dries. Repeat for the remaining dowels.
Glue and tape a clothespin in place as shown on the Slide-Out Gift-Wrap Station Layout Guide. Glue a drawer organizer, small box, or box lid as shown to store bows and ribbons.
Screw two hanger bolts into the drawer pull instead of the screws supplied. Center the pull along one end of the plywood, mark the mounting screw locations, and drill two 3/16-inch holes at least 1-1/4 inches deep. Apply glue to the coarse threads of the hanger bolts and bottom of the drawer pull, push the hanger bolts into the holes, and tape the pull to the board until the adhesive dries.
On the underside of the board, place adhesive-backed carpet sliders 2 inches in from each corner. For hardwood floors, use hard-surface sliders (#37456) instead.
Place rolls of wrapping paper between the eye screws and slide the dowels into position through the tubes with the T-shape ends on the side away from the drawer pull.
