Upgraded old 3-prong 30A Receptacle to 4-prong 50A
Would RecommendMeets my needs and sort-of affordable. The 3-wire 50A receptacle was only $9, but this 4-wire 50A is $16.25. Not bad, but not great. I'd planned on getting the 3-wire version to upgrade it for my new range. Simple receptacle swap. but, when I began, I noticed the service cable was actually 4-wire, 50A rated AL, and was properly wired into a 50A breaker. So, replacing my 30A receptacle for $9 turned into a 4-wire retrofit costing $50+. Oh, well. At least, I have the latest standards met: 4...

Affordable and relatively simple to install
Would RecommendEasier than trying to piece a box together, I’ve been cautioned that the enclosure may not hold up due to high heat but no issues yet and I’ve been charging an electric car through the outlet. 48amp draw with 6/3 romex and hasn’t had any issues whatsoever. The poles internal of the enclosure were a bit difficult to work with but after some fiddling it came together nicely.
