Also good for trapping chipmunks. Cover trap with box to prevent unwanted catches. Peanut butter for bait.

Poor Quality (Maybe One Issue Trap)

The cheaply constructed plastic mechanism that holds the trap once it’s set means your lucky to get more then a single use out of it. I replaced the four I bought (2 sets) thinking maybe it was a fluke but nope the other two set I bought had the same issue. BTW giving an 800 number to call doesn’t solve the problem better construct would though.

Bait is gone, trap is still there

I use peanut butter, a big gooey serving that I have to push down into the hole on these traps (plural, I bought TWO of these useless things). Apparently, the rats can just come up, clean out the hole, and never set off the trap. I've reloaded them twice thinking it was just a one off, but nope. Total waste of money.

Great device

I put out the trap and within 15 minutes Mr. Rat was sorry! Easy for an older woman to open, by hand or foot. Easy to bait. Easy to empty! Now to out fox the next rat!

Great traps!

Very good at catching rats & smaller mice too! Sometimes catching two mice at once! Don't leave out in direct sunlight as they tend to warp and get brittle over time.

A better rat trap

Got one of these to catch what we thought was one pesky rat, we’re now at 8 dead rats that will no longer raid the garden. It’s easy to set and empty. I just wish there was more metal and less plastic so it would last longer.

Easily broken

I got two of there. Set them out next to my garage. Two days later both were tripped with no catch. Tried to reset them and could not. Appears after they are tripped a piece in the trip mechanism breaks making them unusable.

Only tortures rats

Woke up the day after setting it to find a rat desperately trying to remove the trap that seemed to have just gently crushed it's skull a little bit. Squeaks of misery, panicked movements... Literally the opposite of a humane kill. We had to release it, chase the poor maimed thing, and finish the job with a shovel. What a horrible device.

Awful, Did not kill the rat

Though it did catch the rat it did not kill it, and it was not a large rat at all. What a horrible experience, it kept thrashing and trying to run away. Completely unacceptable

Bad

Just bought 2 of these and they broke the first time I used them. They are a piece of junk compared to the old version. Why did you change a good thing

Most effective trap for me

I raise chickens and grow lots of fruits in my backyard, so rats and mice are always a problem. I have tried many different ways and used several different types of traps, this plastic toothed snap trap is the winner. It trapped way more rats than any other trap, and it also works on mice too. The only flaw is that it often doesn't kill the rats with its closing jaw, leaving the rats struggle until I see it, but I hate these pests so much, I still want to give a 5-star rating here although it's ...

Cheap - Breaks after one Snap

Very cheap plastic latch that hold it back in loaded position. It breaks very easily. If the rat sets off the trap without getting caught it breaks the plastic latch and you can not reset and try again. It becomes useless and have to throw it away

Great trap ... but ...

We have had these traps and they have helped us since we got a rat-problem. But the last two snaps (today and yesterday) DID NOT BREAK THEIR NECKS. So we have had to go out to a screaming rat tumbling around with their necks still attached for ours during the night. It’s been horrible, since we have had to kill them afterwards with our own hands. That exact trap might have been used to capture two before these two. NOT Recommended for RATS

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR RATS! I purchased this TomCat Secure-Kill "rat trap" specifically to employ a humane alternative to a live trap as this trap claims "kills rats quickly and effectively" and "Kills rats guaranteed". Well, this trap did neither. In fact, it caused a horrific series of events. Trap was baited and set precisely as instructed on the box. Works

Easy to set, but be careful, it could probably break your finger. The newer design has a hole where the bait goes so you don't have to hold it open to bait it. I've caught 15 rats in my barn in the last month with 4 traps. Someone figured out how to eat the bait without snapping the trap, which looks impossible, but rats are smart & I'll bet it got caught eventually because it hasn't happened lately.

Kill em dead!

This works well, I suggest you take some wire about 2 feet long and tie it thru one of the holes in the trap and then the other end to something secure. Sometimes rats will try to run off and you have to find them if not an instant kill....have had them chew their leg off in the trap to get away too. Also possum/coons like to take the bait when using outside and if it's tied off the eventually pull themselves out of it if tied off securely!
