I use this for the first time this morning and inserted the 12 hour liquid insert that it came with. I had it on the front porch for less than an hour and a half and checked the amount of fluid and it was almost gone. It does not seem that there is a setting that I can adjust to let it go through the liquid slower. This is supposed to be a 12 hour insert and if it only lasts two hours, that is going to be difficult and expensive.

Refill not completely full
I'm not to sure how well this works will need to continue to use it. What I don't like is that the refill doesn't come completely full.

We have purchased a second thermacell for our backyard use to cover a wider area. The original unit has worked well for being outside in the evenings.
