What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this hand-powered spreader for its simplicity, lightweight design, and effectiveness in small-yard applications. Most highlight its ease of use, precise control, and even distribution of seed and fertilizer, with many appreciating its compact size and ability to reach narrow spaces where larger spreaders cannot. Reviewers note the sturdy build and ergonomic design reduce strain during use. However, some mention frustration with unclear application guidelines and difficulty determining application rates. A few report isolated mechanical failures like broken cranks, though these appear uncommon. Overall, most customers consider it an excellent tool for targeted lawn and garden tasks.

Much better product compared with similar one from Gardena. Unfortunately, I lost the small paddle inside. It is simply mounted on the axle. where can i get it?

Love My New Spreader!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Scotts® Whirl™ Hand-Powered Spreader features an adjustable forearm support. This support spreads the weight out which eases the pressure on your wrist. Using the Scotts® Whirl™ is so comfortable! It is a nice upgrade from my old Scotts spreader that I've used for years.

It does not help
The design does not help, most material falls on shoes and legs.

Easy and effective
Perfectly easy to use and does a great job on a small yard. The spreader itself is light weight and the pull out arm rest really makes it easy to hold up with one hand for an extended period of time.

Easy Peasy!
Just got this spreader and it was easy to use on a small lawn. I had to make some adjustments because I can't walk as fast as instructions recommends. Very lightweight. I wish the instructions included how to clean it before storing. I had to look it up on the net to get instructions on how to clean it. Otherwise I'm very happy with it and would recommend to friends.

Works great but limited info
Used this to feed triple action on a small yard but since the directions on the bag did not have dial settings for the whirl, I blew threw the recommended amount too fast. The scotts spreader settings webpage doesn't have the handheld as an option to select as well. What is the correct dial setting?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product to have when fertilizing a small area or seeding. It is easy to handle and use. Very comfortable when spreading seeds. Easy to clean and of course does not take up much space as my heavy spreader.

Scott Whirl, meh.....
The product works. It spreads. It has some weaknesses- Occasionally pellets "stick" the whirling mechanism and upsets the smooth flow of product. It does get heavy after a few minutes. The worst is all the other Scotts machines tell you on the dial how many pounds per/sq ft or in some other intelligible way, how much you're spreading, this one doesn't- so not helpful. Scotts webpage has a tool, but only for Scott's products which I might use sometimes but mostly do not for the same rea...

Not Durable
The mechanism is made of plastic and it will tear when it us used. The torque of turning the handle causes the inner gear to fail. This has happened to me twice.

“Whirl”. Great title
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this a few months ago. Thought at first it would be hard to use because I would be trying to spend with one hand while holding with the other. But was actually fairly easy. I use it it in my smaller flower beds and over my pots.

Great size lawn fertilizer spreader
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had been looking for another hand lawn fertilizer spreader as my original one quit working. I like the small size as I have a small lawn area. It works great and doesn't take a lot of room to store.

Features missing
I bought the Whirl spreader two days ago, am still trying to figure out how much lawn fertilizer to load into it for the tiny (380 sq.ft.) turf area of my yard. I'm using Yara Championship Quality Prilled Fertilizer since I could not find a Scott's product with the desired 3-1-2 Ratio. I've calculated that I need 1.9 lbs of this fertilizer. Where on the Scott's Whirl Spreader can I see when I have 1.9 lbs. (or 2, or 4 lbs) of product in the hopper? If you would even indicate how many pounds ...

Even spread
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this last year. Love it because it spreads more even. Hole doest clog as much as my old spreader. I use it for fertilizer throughout the year and for ironite crystals which are excellent for greening up your lawn.

Easy spreader
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered this product last summer. Didn’t use it until the end of summer. Now I use it any chance I get. It’s very light and extremely easy to use. Spreads fertilizer with ease. If you have a big lawn, this is still a good product for you as it is lightweight. Has 5 spreader settings. Settings will vary with fertilizer being used and lawn size.
