Would RecommendWe have bought two of these for the young trees we bought. The ring presents a nice neat appearance for the base of the tree. However, after about a year, the weeds have found a way to poke up through the middle hole of the ring. Not a ding on the tree ring; we just have really tough/ingenious weeds. It does keep weeds from the rest of the surface area, so it does its job. We would buy these again. If you're looking at this product, I would recommend it.

Great Alternative to Mulch
Would RecommendNeeded something to provide a cushion for a young tree, to keep the mower and string trimmer away from tender bark. I searched with my Lowe's smart phone App and bingo - a rubberized tree ring. Easy installation, just trim short (or remove) grass/vegetation and place the ring. Easy to mow right over the pad and trim at the edge. The ring has a weed inhibitor backing.
I have bought several of these tree rings and all my trees are doing great. They really seem to keep the soil moist and slows the soil drying process on hot sunny days.
