What Customers Are Saying
Customers acknowledge the switch performs its basic on/off function effectively, with many praising its affordability as a replacement part. However, significant concerns dominate: the complete lack of instructions forces users to rely on YouTube tutorials or prior experience, while many report poor build quality including sharp mechanisms that cut fingers, metal prongs damaging insulation, and housing that falls apart. Several warn of overheating and fire hazards. Experienced installers find it manageable, but non-electricians struggle considerably. Overall, while functionality satisfies some, substantial dissatisfaction with construction quality and safety concerns temper enthusiasm.

Does not fit...
Would Not Recommend...a 'normal' lamp type cord. This unit is way to small for the size of the wires. Will be returning it tomorrow.
I had no problem.
This was purchased with the cord - so I returned it

This switch relies on two tiny, flimsy prongs to puncture the cord's insulation and make some random amount of contact with the copper wire. If the insulation is too thick, too thin, or the cord does not stay perfectly aligned during assembly--it will result on a poor (or no) connection. You won't notice the poor connection until, like mine, it overheats, melts, and burns off the contacts! There is a reason these are not UL approved--they would never pass muster. Spend two dollar more and get t...
Less than perfect
Would Not RecommendTHey did not work as advertized. Tge cord was too big for yge switch. Even though theyvwere standard cords, tge switch wouldn’t fit.
Hi Gary,
We are sorry to hear that the in cord light switch did not work out for your project.

it works
Would RecommendI followed this youtube instruction https://youtu.be/Wai_3qexlV0 and it works. I am replacing an broken switch, so wire's already cut. I just have to put them in the case and done.
It works
Would RecommendDepending on the cord, you might have a little problem getting the prongs to pierce the insulation. I am using it on a Christmas tree so we can turn the tree on and off without pulling out the plug. The tree cord is 20 gage rather than 18 gage lamp cord, so the cord fits more loosely inside the switch. To solve the problem, I first assembled the switch with the cord to get a rough fit. Then I opened it up, centered the cut cord ends on the prongs, and seated them firmly with my fingers. After re...
Need Instructions
It's more involved than just passing the wire through it. Have to split the wire and cut the hot leg and place correctly. See YouTube, Phil Crockett

This video helps a lot.
FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK
Would RecommendNo instructions but after reading through prior reviews I understood that the prongs are designed to push through the insulation around the wires. I had to strip back a bit of the wire because my old switch was smaller. The key is to make sure the prongs pierce through the plastic. Then make sure the 1/2 of wire remaining is on the side away from the plastic tab so the screw can be tightened down. Don't know what those other folks are talking about with soldering.
Junk
Would Not RecommendI am kind of a professional at this type of stuff.. This switch would not pierce the light duty wire on my lamp. Absolute JUNK

Works perfectly if you know what you are doing
Would RecommendNo instructions, no big deal. The switch is very easy to install. There's no colors, because it doesn't matter which way it goes. Strip the wires back a little bit, and the key to this switch is to solder the wires. If you cant do that, you shouldn't try it. Take it to someone who knows how to solder.

No problems
Would RecommendThis particular type of switch is NOT easy to find! I was SO happy that Lowe's had in my store! I am a 71 year old grandma who has never done ANYTHING electrical. But since this was a replacement for one that broke, I just installed it the way the old one was installed. Easy peasy!! I am very happy with it. Hope it lasts!!
If this was a problem, stop!
Would RecommendThis was insanely easy. If this takes any longer than 5 mins., don’t touch anything else electrical in your home...
