Pilot hole needed.
Would RecommendThis round head lag screw has a large diameter head which is good for clamping but causes a problem. My driver extension has a non-rotating sleeve for guiding the screw and driver extension. The sleeve would not go over the large diameter head on this screw. This caused a lot of wobble and the screw was difficult to start into the wood. I would definitely drill a pilot hole the next time I use this screw. I just did the install so cannot comment on the corrosion resistance yet.
