Minwax clear brushing lacquer

I’m having a really difficult time with this lacquer. Seems too thick? Goes on inconsistent and results in the “orange peel” effect every time.

Pretty, glossy finish

This lacquer is very clear in the can and goes on clear without clouding. It doesn't need sanding between coats so that is a great feature. It also doesn't bubble and pit like some polyurethanes. I wil say the dry time on it is way off the label. The label says it dries to the touch in 30 minutes and can be recoated in two hours. I have found this to be false, and that most of the time it takes a couple of days for the tackiness to dry out completely to where I feel safe recoating.

Didn’t absorb evenly.

I don’t know what I did wrong but the lacquer didn’t absorb evenly. Some spots were glossy and some left dull, even why several coats were applied with sufficient drying time in between. I then tried sanding and revisiting using the aerosol lacquer. Still poor results. I ended up wet sanding the whole thing in attempt to remove the finish and now I have a mess on my hands and no clue how to fix. If anyone has advice on fixing this I’d love to hear it. I really hope I don’t need to strip and star...

High quality

Worked very well for stairs in my boat. I used more than 7 coats and each time it was easy. I only hit it with very fine sandpaper before the last coat and it came out wonderfully smooth.

Meh!

Dries fast but beads up like wax on water. I put this on two layers of Minwax stain and on everything horizontal it beaded up. Had to sand and get some Varathane instead. It has a nice finish when dried except for where it beaded. Ya would think being a Minwax product that it would blend well with other products, that is not the case. I’m not claiming to be an expert, but have had some awesome results using other brands of lacquer on Minwax stains. The stuff say “brush-able” but is prolly better...

Great for refinishing guitars!

For those of us who build or refinish guitars the "vintage" way, this is nitrocellulose lacquer. I love this stuff and have used it on multiple guitars. It's priced wonderfully and it's something I can pick up at the local big box store and don't have to wait for shipping. For those of you who have said it takes a long time to dry, that's the nature of nitro lacquer. It takes a while to dry and even longer to cure. I will use this stuff as long as you guys don't change the recipe!

This stuff is AMAZING

I have experimented with many, many spray lacquers over the years. This stuff is the real deal. I am amazed with the results I get with this. I switched to this about a month ago (I go thru about 10 cans a month) and I won't go back to the "other". Highly, highly recommend this.

Great for projects

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband use the lacquer for his corn hole boards that he built. He put on coat of the lacquer on the corn hole boards it left a nice shiny coat and was easy to apply I would recommend this product to anyone doing a project.

Streaky and stinky

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Minwax has always been my go to brand. For some reason this lacquer seemed to have more harsh fumes than usual. If you have to be inside you need to make sure you mask up and open a window or two and have a fan for ventilation. Generally, I have no problems with lacquer but this seemed to stay soft for way too long. I had to wait almost 72 hours to apply another coat. And I had streaks. No matter what I did I couldn’t get rid of the streaks. I ...

Project turned out well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Needed to shine up an old wooden click that I found at a thrift shop . This product works well, easy to apply and shined up well. I wish it came with more directions on what to polish it with. I used steel wool , didn’t work too well.

Perfect and Fast

It dries super fast, acts as a primer and a top coat so that you do not need any other products and it looks beautiful. This is a clear and satin formula, it doesn't dry glossy, it has a soft semi matte look to it that is easy to clean and looks sophisticated and beautiful. I'll look into Minwax pro...

Great product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife and I used this on our kitchen table and it went on great. It was easy to apply and covered very well. We didn't have to sand it between coatings and it was nice and smooth to the touch with no little bumps or anything. Our renewed table looks like a brand new one again. Very happy with this product.
