One downside is that it makes a high-pitched beep when done toasting and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the sound. We live in a small space with bedrooms next to the open kitchen. The toaster has served as an unwanted alarm clock when one person gets up earlier than the others: BEEEEEEEP! I couldn't find any mention of the sound in the manual, but someone on YouTube has a video about...

New & Improved
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our second Kitchenaid toaster in the past 21-years. Quite pleased with the toasters overall, but disappointed in the plastic handle on the crumb trays. We had two plastic handles separate (cook) from the metal crumb trays on the original unit and the current unit still has the same arrangement. The "lift" feature and "cancel" button are great improvements and continuing the "Empire Red" option.

When I started looking to buy a toaster I didn’t think twice about buying a Kitchenaid brand. However I am a little disappointed in the toasting method. Good toaster, not great
