What Customers Are Saying
These threaded inserts can be useful if installed properly, but the soft material makes them prone to breakage if not handled carefully. Key tips for successful installation include using a cap screw with two nuts instead of a flat head screwdriver, locking the nuts against each other, and using the correct pilot hole size. Some users reported a lack of clear instructions, making the installation process more challenging. Overall, the quality seems inconsistent, with some users experiencing breakage even when following the recommended steps.

Brass wood insert
Would Not RecommendNo suggested drill size given on the packaging. The screw driver prongs broke off trying to screw the insert into the wood, and there was very little pressure.
Brass Insert Nut
Would RecommendThese have a small thread and go into hardwood very easily. I had no trouble installing them and the are holding really firm. I suggest putting a dab of glue just to help hold them snug in the workplace.

2 soft’
Would RecommendBought four. Two ended up working okay. Two ended up cracking at the top as I was screening them in. They were screwed into soft wood used for table top but when I tightened them into the holes. Two cracked and then split and the top broke off. Since they were deep enough, I didn’t take them out and risk damaging the table top. I then screwed the bolt on and they seem to be holding well enough.

Why are they NO INSTRUCTIONS?
Would Not RecommendAs per other customers, mine broken off also when attempting to install them into PINE. If they will break in pine they will probably break in anything. Fortunately I did an online search and found someone telling to use a 1/4" bolt to screw them in. That would have been nice to know before breaking two of them, AFTER over drilling the hole size. I have used other Hillman hardware will good success and thought this would be a similar experience. Being under a time line and then having thes...

Pilot Hole Drill Size
Would RecommendWish they told you the drill sizes on packaging. Per Hillman's website. Drill Size : 15/64 in
Fail during installation.
Would Not RecommendExtremely brittle material. They all fractured; the material crumbled during the insertion. The clearance hole was the proper size. The screwdriver properly fit into the slot. Since these are not going to be visible, get the ones that are installed with a hex wrench.
