They leave a tiny hole in the wall as opposed to larger holes made with other hardware and hooks, and they can be easily installed by hand with no tools and little strength. I've installed large, heavy items on drywall where there are not adequate supports to screw into and have never had a fail. They are not for hanging shelving, but pictures, mirrors and such.
