What Customers Are Saying
Most customers praise this product as an effective mulch and soil amendment, noting it retains moisture, suppresses weeds, and improves plant growth at an affordable price. However, many express disappointment that it resembles shredded wood chips rather than true compost, with a dark, earthy texture. Despite this mislabeling concern, reviewers consistently highlight its value and practical utility in flower beds, raised gardens, and as a soil conditioner. Several users report using it successfully for years, accepting its composition as a worthwhile trade-off for cost-effectiveness. Overall, most customers recommend it when expectations align with its actual performance as mulch rather than finished compost.

Would Not RecommendAfter buying 18 bags of HapiGro garden soil and compost, I couldn't figure out why my vegetable garden wasn't producing. I got my soil tested and it was low in everything.
It's not really compost, but a high quality mulch!
Would RecommendThis is great mulch with small wood chips/bark that provides excellent cover. Since it's advertised as compost -- which is a stretch to call it that -- I only gave it 4 stars. If they advertised it more accurately, I'm sure they could sell at a higher price.

Perfect for us
Would RecommendThis compost is really good stuff, it is cheap enough to use. You can add cow manure and peat moss to make better if you wish. We use this in pots and grow bags.
Great Value
Would RecommendFor the price, this is the best compost available. It's nowhere near the best quality, but when you're trying to amend large amounts of nutrient-light, heavy clay soil for your garden, this is a good solution.
Dirt. Cheap.
Would RecommendThis Hapigro compost is my go-to purchase for cheap potting soil. It is not dirt-laden and does not pack hard (see pictures). At first I thought there had too much compost debris but as you can see my plants love it. I also used it planting five bushes.
not really compost, more like small chip mulch
Not a terrible product, but not what i was looking for originally. My first impression is this product is like very fine mulch. Very little dirt and definite visible wood chip. That being said, its a great amendment to my existing clay soil battle, just not what i was expecting when I opened the bag. I would buy this again and recommend it for certain circumstances. I’d warn that this should be mixed with other dirt to get the best desired mix.
