What Customers Are Saying
The product performed well in lighting charcoal quickly and effectively, though it may have taken slightly longer to reach the desired cooking temperature compared to traditional options. While some appreciated the eco-friendly and natural composition, many were dissatisfied with the strong, unpleasant odor that lingered and affected the taste of the food cooked with the charcoal. Overall, the product is a decent alternative for those seeking a more environmentally-friendly option, but the strong odor may be a significant drawback for some users.

This stuff smells awful and the smell sticks
Would Not RecommendIt will catch fire and burn, but other than that, this stuff is awful smelling. The smell lingers on the charcoal and doesn't burn off. It smells like old mad dog 2020 or something. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it multiple times, but got tired of explaining it to guests. It will burn but so will toilet paper, I'll never buy this stuff agin.
Terrible smell and taste
Would Not RecommendSmells and tastes terrible. Ended up having to throw all of the chicken we grilled away. This fluid made it inedible. Do not recommend!

OMG the wretched smell
Would Not RecommendI care deeply about this earth. But this product is the most disgusting thing I have ever used. It smells rancid, and the smell permeates everything, for days! Thank God I did not cook with it. I did use it to light a campfire and people ran away from the beach. A waste of money unless you have no sense of smell. Plus the nausea, and the horrible experience. Move on to something else. Waxed pinecones are green and they don’t stink up the earth.
Horrible Smell
Would Not RecommendStarts the charcoal but smells horrible. Smell sticks to your hands and clothes.
Worst lingering smell Ever
Would Not RecommendThe smell on this is HORRENDOUS. Smell lingers for hours on end.The smell stays on your cloths you'll smell it the next day. Absolutely putrid smell. Stick to the traditional lighter fluid. Did I mention that the SMELL IS HORRIBLY HORRENDOUS
Smells terrible, lights slow. But still decent.
Would Not RecommendI just finished the bottle i got last summer. It smells like cheap tequila spilled inside work boots, and takes longer to burn off. 3 stars for being "eco-friendly," but it's not nearly as effective as standard lighter fluid. It's thicker, so you need to let it soak in longer before lighting, or it will burn off before the charcoal is ready. It doesn't leave a taste on food if you wait until the coals are ready. But neither does petroleum based fluid. Any review that says they get a funny taste ...
Nasty
Would Not RecommendThis stuff is nasty. Has this horrible alcoholic smell to it. If it gets on your hands it’s impossible to get the smell off
Good but an odor
Would RecommendWe've only used this once as we usually use electric charcoal starters. It lit easy and took about the same amount of time to get the coals white.During the start up time, there was an odor as it burned off. We were nervous about putting our food on but the smell disipated as it burned. There was no evidence of the starter flavor in the food.
Instant Lighting Fluid Reeks!
Would RecommendThis thing stinks! It works well but the smell is ripe. Spray and allow the fluid to penetrate the coals. The coals absorb and light up immediately. I use a coal chimney to help out but you can also layer the coals.
Wonderful idea but....
Would Not RecommendI love the idea of an eco friendly started fluid that is organic, up cycled and clean. I occasionally use fluids for camping fires for cooking and loved the idea of a clean and less combustible starter traveling inside the camper. However, sadly this fluid is messy. Although the lid snaps securely, upon opening the lid the fluid spurts out. It is both oily and smells very strongly of alcohol. It is messy and unpleasant. The directions state very little is necessary to start a fire. I didn...

Odd Smelling
Would RecommendThis fluid works great, brickettes light up easily and fast. I like the fact that it is environmentally safe but it gives off a really funky odd smell .
Pure Charcoal Taste!
Would RecommendI am an avid griller even though I'm a vegetarian! And I prefer charcoal on my veggies just like meat eaters prefer it on their meat; it just tastes better than propane! When I seen the EcoGreen Charcoal Lighter Fluid and read it was an Award-winning Vegetable Oil Formula, I was intrigued! I hoped so much there wouldnt be the standard fuel taste other fluids produce as promised on the label and it was true! And the fact that it is Petroleum Free, made it gain another star! I had no problems ligh...
