Too soft - Stripped too many heads, many bent

Had to buy a second box because the star drive kept stripping the head and lost about half the screws due to mostly stripping, some bending. The Star Drive tip destroyed the head. I wondered if these were soft aluminum screws, rather than stainless steel, although I have no data to make such a claim. they are so soft that they strip, bend or brake while driving them in. Will never get again.

SS deck screws

Excellent small head (trim) fastener for wood and composite materials, indoor or outside. Prefer versus coated screws .

Worth the extra money especially for the DIYer.

Easy to use. Drives home nicely with a drill and star bit. Make sure your setting is correct on your drill bit depth adjustment. No need to press hard after it enters the material it is being attached to. I like them a lot but it does take some finesse to use them well. Practice makes perfect and you will like them.

They will shear off and bend easily.

Take your time and pre-drill with a larger bit than usual. They will bend or break off.

These worked wonderfully for pinning antique French Provincial Roof tiles turning a screw driver instead of having to swing a hammer directly over them to drive in the soft copper nails.

stainless screw with small torx head

(would reluctantly recommend, with caution, to a friend.) In larger sizes, with heat-treated steel, the torx head design does a very good job of transferring torque to a bolt or screw. In smaller sizes like this screw, made of a somewhat soft stainless, it it quite easy to strip out the torx feature. Once the head is stripped, the screw is booger to remove. Soft and sorry metal

Bought these to redo the weatherstrip and boards around the garage doors. Even with predrilling the holes, the heads are so soft that they easily strip out. The box came with 138 screws, It took 84 screws to do the job, there are 11 left in the box, I had to throw 45 of them away, or about 1/3 of the box ~ $5. That is totally unacceptable.

These screws did the job perfectly. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is that they were harder to get started than I expected, but once started they worked great.

Useless & Cheap

Purchased these for a MoistureShield deck board. First pass was directly through the composite into the joists. Screws bent and the head stripped. The drive bit is harder than the screw. Second pass drilled pilot holes which stopped the bending but the slightest resistance stripped the head. Would like to return the unopened boxes but it is pass the time. Will find another source.
