Ratings & Reviews for Crescent Lufkin 12-in Measuring Wheel

The Problem is the Plastic Gears on the Counter

Decent quality on most of the product as expected from Lufkin. BUT, it has cheap, plastic, fine tooth gears on the counter which wear down rather quickly. To make it worse, I just searched the Lufkin website and you can't buy a replacement counter. I guess they want you to buy a whole new unit. Bye, bye Lufkin.

easy-peasy

although this unit is a tad bulky, it does perform to the needs. With only two flaws that I see, the handle is floppy and does not latch or clip to the main body. Second, when the kick stand is in the upright position, my extremely large boot does not fit in the space to reset the meter. If the designers would simply install the kick stand on the right side of the unit, this would solve that problem, otherwise I would have given it a 5 star rating.

Looks like it will do the job.

Seems a bit more rugged than the one it replaced. Only downside so far (it was very frosty this morning) is that the wheel seems to slip a bit on frosty ground. That will probably improve with further use as things loosen up.

Lufkin measuring wheel has bad design

DO NOT purchase this measuring wheel if you plan on using it more than for an occasional measurement. It WILL NOT last. 1. The clasp that holds the rod in place when extended is made of plastic. The clasp is tightened each time the rod is extended and within a couple months of use the plastic will break. A couple of screws through the thin aluminum rod will fix this but the rod can no longer be collapsed. 2. The aluminum rod uses a single screw to connect the plastic measuring housing. Again, e...

I was skeptical that the wheels wouldn't traverse snow but I was wrong. Products works very well in snow.

Does the job well

It doesn't feel as solid as the true pro versions, and there's no latch to hold the folding handle in place while folded, but it does the job well and makes it MUCH easier to measure longer distances where a 100 foot roll-up tape is painful. The bigger wheel makes it suitable not only for smooth and flat surfaces but much better for outdoors, yards, even fairly rough terrain than the ones with the small solid wheel. Handle is comfortable enough. I'm 6'6" and did not have to stoop continually to ...

Expensive but good

I needed this urgently. If I had the time to wait 3 or 4 days, there are cheaper options online. you can guy a similar item for 50 or 60 % of lowe's price.

Light Yet Durable

I had reservations at first when I saw this item on Lowe's shelf which I needed. After picking the item from the shelf I found that although the measuring device is made of plastic and aluminum the gear drive for the counter and the bearing assy. had literally no slop in them. Additionally the plastic portions are engineered for durability in that although plastic it is very thick where needed. Thumbs up on this product offered by Lowe's.
