Large mailbox does not fit on Post

Lowes employee informed me that the post and mailbox would fit together. It did not! Mailbox was too large for post to accommodate. I had already set stand for post in cement. Then the post itself was compromised and split as I put in on the stand as instructed. Not only did I have to return the post and purchase a new one, but I had to create a platform for the mailbox and then attach it to the post in a position that would not allow me to use the whole post kit. This post is wayyyy too short.

The post isn't even close to being tall enough. I had to purchase another post to get it to work. This post is barely tall enough to go from the ground to the legal level for the mailbox. It is impossible to put any part of the post in the ground. I had to go to another big box in order to get the required mailbox post.

Good, but not what I expected

I planned to replace my current mailbox post by digging it out and replacing with this. But the cedar post is not designed to go into the ground. Instead, there is a steel angle beam that hammers into the bottom of the post and is driven into the ground. Unless the ground is extremely firm this is likely to fall over from any pressure, such as closing the mailbox. It really needs a concrete base. Difficult to Install

I do not recommend this mailbox post. The post was rough and not very sturdy. We will have to sand and finish it in order to avoid splinters and protect it from the elements. Installation was complicated by the fact that the hole at the bottom of the post was not long enough for the drive-in metal stake. Despite our efforts to hammer it in, the drive-in metal stake would not fit all the way into the post. It seems like an easy installation but is not if your post has similar issues.

This post will not last very long.

Post was extremely flimsy. The metal that gets inserted into the wood post is made of thin angle iron that is mild steel not hardened steel. Terrible design.
