This stake is being used as a back-up for another. If the dogs manage to pull the first stake out of the ground it’s up to this one next. Compared to the other stake the coils on this are narrower in overall diameter. It seems like this would have an impact on pull-out strength. Depth is sufficient to hit firm compacted soil/clay in my recent construction yard, and I had to use a 24” steel rod to torque it down all the way. Would RecommendTwo of these were purchased to add additional support to a portable basketball system. Both the 8" and 16" were considered. The 8" is rated for 125lbs and the 16" rated for 400lbs. The extra weight rating was needed so opted for the 16". They are orange and easily found. if they will be inserted in the ground but only occasionally used it's the perfect color since locating them is much easier to spot.
