There’s a small battery inside so you can pull it out of the outlet while you’re setting the on and off times. Setting the time is pretty easy and straightforward; it feels just like setting my alarm clock. It’s new so I can’t comment on reliability yet. I got it because I like being able to set the on and off times to the hh:mm precision.
