First of all, I purchased two 4pks. This style of clip was new to me. I have used the other style for many years but couldn't find them at the store any longer. The advantage of these smartstraps is that the "Jaws" open widely, much more than previous styles. The disadvantage is that the ratcheting "teeth" used to make them latch and stay latched aren't deep enough, so there's only a small amount of biting pressure that can be applied before the teeth slip. pool cover straps

I used these clips to secure my pool cover down with bungy straps attached to concrete blocks so the wind would not blow off or to the side. they worked great.

First, I love to leave 5 star ratings on services, restaurants and products. This is an unusual rating for me but I am so disgusted with this cheap product that I just have to warn others. I have used tarp clips often in the past as we have always had travel trailers that we have used RV ADCO tarps on and tarp clips just secure the tarp better. zero stars. Poor function

these just didnt hold and one even broke under hand pressure while trying to get closed. Maybe it was a very old product? Regardless of my attempts on thin or thick tarps the vlips just WOULD NOT STAY SHUT. I would not even take these if they were free, steer clear of this product. I've imformed the manager on duty at my local store that they should be removed from inventory.

Doesn’t stay locked

Had problems keeping the item locked. The tighter the hold, the more likely it will open automatically. I had to put a screw or other device behind the latch to keep it locked.

Don't waste your time or money.

I bought 4 packs of four, out of the 16 clips 4 would hold at all, as I tried to use the remaining 12, some of them held some would pop right off, I returned all four packs, and found better clips at a much lower price at a different supplier; and all held without a problem, and were very secure. I'm surprised that I could only find these clips when searching Lowes web site, when a search of another site turned up several types of tarp clips. Total unsatisfied. These should be a ZERO star rating...

Poor Design. They do not grip or hold at all. Will be returning them today.

100% trash

Bought these and returned them same day. The plastic locking mechanism isn't strong enough to stay on a trap even with no stress or tension. These are designed poorly having plastic on plastic edges that will flex or sheer easily. Buy the kind that have a screw for securing the jaw.

Bought these to keep an awning that has stretched out from flapping in the wind. Very happy with the job they are doing. Just what I was expecting!

This are awesome

I have bought over a dozen of these things, to help tie down stuff and keep it down. I used 12 on the shading canopy (3 per side) in the back yard to keep it from blowing away in the winds. It has been out there now for well over a month, and has not once been lifted off the frame. Two per side keep the canopy (which is actually an old Military grade personal Parachute) on the frame, one per side keeps it tucked up in the middle.

Buy 'em if you know what they'll do.

Great for heavy tarp material! Don't buy for tying down single thickness "blue tarps". If you plan to use them for thin material be sure to triple fold before clipping.

Not what i’d Hoped for

I bought these to add to my tarp clamp set as the awesome ones I previously bought were no longer carried by Lowes. They do not hold well, easily break and only clamp on layer of tarp if you can get them to work at all. Do not buy.
