Would Not RecommendThis was kind of difficult to get on. Originally I thought it would be a good thing to not have the screw-on retainer but in retrospect I think it's easier with the screw then without. I had to WD40 the seal to get it on. Works fine as a filter.

Ridgid basic paper filter
This is the replacement filter that comes standard with the shop vac. Ridgid makes two other filters that trap finer particles, a washable filter and a filter for wet applications; none of which were stocked at my closest Lowe’s. I would have to ask my friend what he was planning to use his shop vac for, before making a recommendation.
