Good Basic Light

Would be great for utility room or closet. Easy to install and has pull-cord switch. I just wired the light to existing overhead light, turned it on with pull string and cut off string so only needed to use wall switch to control.

great for rental

I purchased this for a rental house and this is perfect. Not high quality, but didn't buy for that reason.

Simple

I do not know why I did not replace the florescent light in the laundry room years ago with this light! I always have trouble with florescent due to humidity in the laundry room. This was a simple $10 fix that has made my life so much simpler and throws as much light with one bulb as did the two bulb florescent!! Simple with a pull chain, just like Grandma used to have!! White ceiling light

This light is easy to do install in a tight place. I would recommend this light for it's look and ease of installation.

Find another way to light your space

I needed to replace two of these fixtures in the basement, and these matched the design of the others already in place. I was disappointed that the quality was lacking from the older ones that still worked. The on/off toggle is temperamental, sometimes needing a couple of pulls to operate the light. They also are dimmer that the others. These were the only ceiling hugging options without retiring the basement, so I was was stuck.

Light assembly was easy to install, with all the directions. Had no problem installing light.

You get what you pay for!

Everything we purchased for our whole house re-wire was excellent, except for this lamp. The lamp is fine, but the pull string only worked once on one of the two lights of this model that we purchased. We now must uninstall these closet lights and replace with something a little sturdier.

Bright light

The light installed easily in place of precious worn out light. The only thing MFG did not have enough of was insulation. Not enough insulation around edges and wiring. Light still works great and gives out plenty of light.

inexpensive and functional

We needed this to replace an old light we had over our kitchen sink. After a couple of days the thing which holds the pull cord out from the light broke. It is made of plastic. We returned it and got another one and we are careful to pull on the cord to the side instead of down. We've had it for a few weeks now and it hasn't broke. We have a house built in the 60's. It was inexpensive, and it looks good (better than what we had) and it works just fine.

Open Lamp Upgrade

These are a good economical upgrade for older homes with the open porcelain lamp holders that are dangerous and do not meet current code.

The glass globe was really nice. The only thing that wasn't so good was th e chain pull on/off switch. It was a little hard to switch from off to on and vice versa.

Terrible Pull-Chain Design

Save your money, skip this light. The install is very simple and the light overall is well made and handsome. But the pull chain is useless. It's useless just like all the other pull chain light fixtures that have a 90 degree turn that the chain has to make downward. The chain gets caught on the outer lip of the switch every single time you pull it. As a result you have to pull very hard on the chain to overcome the beads catching on the lip. BAD INSTRUCTIONS

The illustrated instructions and copy for this product describe how to install a flushmount single bulb fixture light into the ceiling. In the instructions, the light fixture features one long white wire, one long black wire, and a ground wire. Pretty typical--I know how to install this. However, the actual light (Portfolio model J0108) has two short black wires, one long black wire, one long white wire, and a ground wire. Pull chain lights are hard to find these days

I've had 2 of these in the last 12 years. Pull chain ceiling lights are pretty much a thing of the past so, these are hard to find and the selection is usually limited. The other reviewer gave this light 1 star because the pull chain failed after a few months. It's true that the pull chain doesn't last forever but, not yanking or pulling hard on it will significantly extend it's life. Don't buy this

Didn't have a choice of zero stars. Hard to find pull chain fixtures but don't buy this one. Electrician installed and the switch quit working in less than two months. Frustrating.
