The dirty water stays separated from the clean water and the amount of spin, in other words, how wet or damp, on the mop are your choice by using the foot spin pedal. The spin pedal takes some time to get used to it since it's awkward if your feet are big. I added a disinfectant cleaner to the water but I think you can purchase drop in cleaners.
