What Customers Are Saying

The Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish provides a clear, durable finish that many customers found easy to apply and dries quickly. However, some users reported issues with the product drying too fast, leading to an uneven or milky appearance, as well as peeling or cracking over time, especially on wet surfaces. The product may work well for certain applications but may not be suitable for all projects requiring a very smooth, uniform finish.

It has a strong smell when it’s drying.

This product worked well for my project. It went on easily and dried quickly. I had some trouble seeing where I had applied it and needed to use a flashlight to be sure I got coverage. My project was a pho wall finish. The sealer filled in and flattened it out even more. It had a pretty strong smell for a few days that made me cough. But it’s a good product.

Does not work as described

Would Not Recommend

This product did not really do what was promised. We put multiple coats our new butcher block countertop and water still leaves spots and rings on it. We are going to have to sand it completely down and start all over with a new type of sealant.

I have plenty of woodworking experience, so I would like to say this is not due to user error. I was doing a remodel using minwax's water-based polycrylic. Unfortunately I ran out towards the end of my project and Lowe's no longer carried the standard polycrylic. They had switched to polycrylic max. Having had extremely good results with the standard polycrylic I purchased it without any hesitation. Unfortunately, this product peels for no reason, and scratches with the lightest touch. It is def...

Sealing Pine Ceiling

Would Recommend

First, I have little experience with finishes for wood. That being said, here are my thoughts. I did a lot of research about sealing my Interior pine ceiling. Some people say it's an absolute must, some say it's not necessary. Some say you must do both sides, some say that's not necessary. There are only 3 real cons to doing it. Cost, time, and finish result. The pros are to minimize moisture and odor absorption, to keep it cleaner looking, as dust and such are less likely to stick to or penetra...

The less expensive polycrylic gives same result

Would Recommend

It's billed as a single coat. It is a bit thicker than the "double" coat acrylic, but since it really needs a light sanding, you're likely to put a double coat on anyway. Looks fabulous, either way.

Doesn’t dry clear. It is gray where any corner causes buildup.

I very rarely leave negative reviews but

Would Not Recommend

I am super disappointed in this product. Probably should have done more research and that’s my bad…but it looked like it would work for my counters. Got a good quality brush and didn’t shake the product as instructed. My kitchen is tiny and the counter sections are only about 4 feet each. This stuff was drying almost as soon as I applied it. My brush left all sorts of streaks, and if it even slightly touched a section I JUST did it would almost gel up and leave thicker streaks. I wanted so...
