It does not get a 5 because it does not do anything extraordinary, it cleans the heavy junk from fuel. It is also an expensive little part. Pleated paper, or fiber in a plastic, with metal backing. It cleans the visible junk out of gas, I think it is expensive for what it is. John Deer is cheep they don't give an inch of hose slack at the rail, making changing the filter more challenging for people with big hands , like me. Over priced!

This was priced at $10.98 plus tax. John Deere dealer had the same filter for $4.50 !

Gas filter

I didn't realize it was past time to change the filter. I had a generic gas filer on the tractor that still looked goo. This time I paid the extra dollar and bought the Deer Brand filter. I old one had sediment on the bottom which I did not see. The new one work fine.

I most usually do my shopping at Lowe's on line. That way I can read about the product and read the reviews. The reviews on most products helps me determine if I will purchase the product. This fuel filter was easy to put in and looks to be good quality. I have always been pleased with the Lowe's products that I have purchased and with customer service. Thanks Lowe's.

John Deere Gas Filter

I purchased a generic gas filter to replace the JD gas filter. I thought I would save a couple of dollars cutting corners. I began having gas filter failure and traced the problem quickly to the generic gas filter. Now I end up spending twice for the same filter. I have not had any problems since replacing the generic part with original equipment.

A standard product

This filter was easy to install and is working fine so far (a few weeks). But what puzzles me is how my gas line got blocked in the first place, causiing the mower to quit in the middle of the field I mow and requiring me to push the mower back to the garage where I keep it. This is a heavy machine! But I suspected the gas line, and when I took the old filter off the input line was dry - no gas coming through. Product was good. Just what I needed to replace a clogged filter. I needed 54" blades and idle wheels for the mower, but don't carry them. I have found Lowe's to have most everything I need with a good quality made products. As was with this filter

Fair price for factory part

John Deere direct price is around $10, not $3 like other post states (check their online store). By the time you pay for shipping, there's not much difference in price and I didn't have to wait for it to arrive. John Deere filters are supposedly thicker and therefore better for your lawn tractor engine. My lawn tractor kept stalling and I noticed lots of small particles in the filter. Price gouging on John Deere products.

Why pay over $13 for a fuel filter John Deere themselves offers for less than $3? This is simple price gouging on Lowe's part. There's nothing wrong with the quality of the product, it's just that you are literally paying $10 over what capitalistic John Deere offers the same filter for.
