What Customers Are Saying
This fire starter product is generally effective and reliable for starting pellet stoves and other fires, though some customers have noted issues with the recent formula change. The majority of reviewers praise the product's ability to quickly and easily ignite pellets and other materials, with many stating it is the best they have used. However, a significant number of customers have complained that the new gel-based formula is too thick and does not work as well as the previous liquid version, which they found more effective. Some also noted the product has become more expensive over time. Overall, the fire starter seems to be a useful and popular product, but the recent formulation change has been a disappointment for many long-time users.

Would RecommendI use this all winter long. Only bad part is trying to find it in the store. I usually check for inventory and location using the Lowe's app only to go to the store - Columbia MD - and find nothing. Sometimes store employees find it sometimes not. At the moment app shows 22 in stock, they are looking for it now. Had same issue with some paneling, shows 105 in stock but no one can find that either.
Firestarter
Would RecommendHave tried 2 or 3 other products; this is the best I have used!!
Pretty good stuff
Would RecommendNot as much of a gel, but still does the job! Would buy again!
Too thin
Would Not RecommendNot sure why but the current Starter Gel is not really gel and very thin. Tried 5 times to start our free standing oil stove as in the past and this stuff burned off in a matter of seconds. Quality not the same as before. Went to a local Stove store and bought their Get and stove lit in the first try.
Works great for pellet stove
Would RecommendI do not have an electric starter for my pellet stove so this gel fire starter works great to light the pellets and is much safer than liquid lighter fluid since it sticks to the pellets and doesn't drip down into other parts of the stove. I do think it's a bit pricey but a lot cheaper than setting my house on fire.
So so
Would Not RecommendIt works but it is too expensive , totally not worth buy again.
best i have found
Would RecommendI have used many different brands of fire starter , and this one works 1st time every time !!! if anyone has a problem lighting a pellet heater with this product I would venture to say its the user that's the problem and not the product
fire starter
Would Not Recommendthis product is not as advertised, not by Lowe's but the manufacturer. It will not start a fire, it is a gel that burns for a little bit and goes out. It seems to be like the warmers you place under a tray to keep it warm, but without the time factor.
great stuff!
Would RecommendYou don't need much to start your fire, put a little bit on and it starts right away. I wound praise this product to anyone. Try it you will like it.
Terrible! Not a gel! Not for Pellet Stoves!
Would Not RecommendContrary to the 5 star review above, I bought this for my pellet stove and found the product terrible. I'm not sure if I had a bad lot, but this was certainly NOT a gel, but more like thin kerosene. The liquid just went right down through the pellets, and did not cling like a gel should. Upon lighting, there was a huge flareup from UNDER the pellets. The pellets never caught even after repeated applications. This would make a good barbeque or other fire starter, but I would not recommend this ...
Great for pellet stoves!
Would RecommendThis product works great to start my pellet stove since I don't have an automatic ignition. It goes on smooth and burns clean.
