What Customers Are Saying
The Grip-Rite deck screws are a high-quality product that performs well for outdoor wood projects. The star-drive or Torx head design provides a secure, non-stripping grip, making the screws easy to drive in. The screws are described as durable, rust-resistant, and able to hold up well over time, even in harsh outdoor conditions. Many reviewers report successfully using these screws for fence, deck, and other exterior wood construction and repair projects, noting they provide excellent holding power. While a few reviewers experienced issues with some screws failing to grip the wood properly or stripping out, this seems to be a minority experience.

Would Not RecommendA regular ole screw works 10x better! They tear the wood fibers and just free spin when the COUNTERSUNK head hits wood. They must have some other use bur that use shoukd be stated on the box not just wood to wood!!

Strip easily
Would Not RecommendThese are horrible. They won't countersink in most cases. They strip very easy. I had to replace about a hundred in a fence I am building. Don't buy this style!

Terrible Product - Fail's to bite+20% of the time.
Would Not RecommendNever thought I find myself reviewing a screw but here I am. DustinG's review is spot on except for I think it is more than 10 percent of the screws that fail. I would say 20-25% of the screws do not bite into the wood and will barely go flush and definitely will not countersink. then when you remove the screw you have bare medal and a worn down screw head. I was repairing a wooden fence using new and existing wood for the project. The screws failed even failed while connecting new Southern Pin...
Junk
Would Not RecommendThey changed the thread design some time back. they used to be the only screws I would use. now they strip out and will not hold. just JUNK waste of my money Don't waste yours
Terrible quality, 10% fail to grip
Would Not RecommendI bought a 5# box of Grip Rite PrimeGuard Plus #8 x 1-5/8" exterior screws (tan), model NL158STT5. Over the course of a few weekends, I was assembling a dog house and an outdoor bar. At least 10% of these screws failed to grip the substrate. They would go into the dimensional lumber (pressure treated) but once the head would bottom out, the screw would continue to spin. I would remove the screw and usually find that the thread "height" was next to nothing. A large percentage of the new, unused s...
Not a very agressive screw
Would Not RecommendOkay, this is not my first rodeo. I've built my fair share of fences over the years, and would normally use a nail gun, but I had to build three gates and opted to use screws for them. Gotta say, I thought using these fence screws would be a lot easier, but half the time they just spin and don't grab a 'bite" to get started. I'm stuck with them now, but when I finish the gates I'm tossing whatever screws I have left in the trash and will never buy this product again.
This is a new design and a bad idea
Would Not RecommendI have been using this brand for years and recently a design change was made that made this it unacceptable. They are hard to start, especially in the larger screws even in soft wood like southern yellow pine and the threads are serrated which cuts the wood fibers resulting in poor holding power. The smaller screws such as the 8x1-5/8 are acting like more of a drill and strip out easily.
Temp use only
Would Not RecommendUsed them for my deck. After 6 months many were failing, Snapping apart. Not just one or two either. I will never buy from this brand again.
A lot fewer screws in the Box then advertised
Would Not RecommendOnline it says there's 743 pieces actually in the store on the Box it says 643 pieces At about 5 cents a screw $5 in screws are missing.

Dissatisfied
Would Not RecommendI tried screwing 1/2” plywood to a 2x4. Screws would not tighten up and pull the plywood up tight. They simply screwed in snug then begin to spin.
