What Customers Are Saying

The contour gauge is a useful tool for measuring and transferring complex shapes, particularly for DIY projects like cutting around door frames, installing flooring, and copying molding profiles. However, the quality and durability of the product are inconsistent, with some users reporting issues like pins falling out, bending, or becoming misaligned, especially with repeated use. Additionally, the smaller size of the gauge may make it less suitable for larger or more intricate profiles. Overall, the contour gauge can be a handy tool when it functions as intended, but the reliability and longevity of the product are concerns for some customers.

Fell Apart Quickly

Would Not Recommend

It was good while it lasted; slthough it was rather narrow. Also the pins on the far edges of a round surface wouldn’t push back properly, but bent to the sides. But after just a few uses, about a dozen pins near the center just fell out. I’ll replace itcwith another type.

Gauge needles bend and take lots of pushing

Would Not Recommend

It takes far too much force to push the needles against a contour. This may be fine for harder materials, but definitely not for softer materials---you'll wind up stabbing instead of hugging the contour. And even for the harder materials, there is another issue: the needles bend easy, and where the grade is very steep (meaning close to parallel to the needles), the needles will simply bend around that part of the grade, leaving a small gap where a stiffer needle would have settled. I just got ...

Oh what fun

Would Not Recommend

Sliped out of my hand and when it hit the floor the pins got out of adjustment. While trying to straighten them one came out and then it was a mess from there. So dont drop it or mess with the pins.

Steel Contour-gauge

Would Not Recommend

If this metal contour-gauge is the only one that is available at the store you are buy one at then it does the job depending on what you're doing. But the thin metal needles make tracing the contour difficult sometimes and inaccurate. But if you have the choice, buy the plastic type that does the same thing but way better! This is one tool where the plastic version, by far surpasses the metal version. Overall the plastic one works like a charm, and so much better and faster.

Grading On The Curves

Would Recommend

Like most of the other posts, the pins will easily bend if pressed off-angle. Friction drag on the pins is very heavy! Have to push hard and straight but it gives a very accurate profile and holds it. Suggest manufacturer upgrade to a switchable friction lock.

Works but if pins move crooked it’s hard to get the tool back straight.
