Ok tool but quirky

I have had this tool for several years (a gift). For that reason I have learned to live with the quirks. The feed is uneven often leaving snipe marks. The belts brake easily but are very difficult to replace.

Not a great planer.

This planer has never functioned properly. Feeder issues, fragile plastic parts that broke in the first week. Depth adjustment stiff. Etc,etc.

DW734 Planer

I have had the DW734 for 19 years and have planed many feet of wood. Have only needed to replace blades. This is a top quality item

The little thermal cut off

I have had this thing for 3 years. Used it twice with 6 pieces of stock. After running 4 times the thermal switch goes off with the smallest cuts. It may do balsa wood it doesn't have to plane.

Garbage - Motor blew, Dewalt will not help

My motor blew just after the 1st year with this planer. Dewalt won't help me out, and I have replaced brushes, switches, and any other parts. Seems like I have a short in the motor itself. Very good experience planer user virgin

Nice skims off the top of a few 2x6x8ft - I will need to build a riser at feed and off-feed sides so that there is no snipe - I got caught a couple times, but definitely user error as I was not holding 'dead flush' - This unit would definitely benefit from extenders on both sides that DeWalt could either provide - OR - sell as an attachment.

Great product for smaller projects, like a deck. Handles all lengths of lumber, adjustable height for planing.

DeWalt 15-Amp Benchtop Planer

Package arrived without any damage. Works as expected.

Periodically stop and clear shavings

Works well smoothing rough sawn spruce planks. Shavings go everywhere, but I set up in the driveway on a tarp and captured most. Used adjustable height sawhorses for in-feed and out-feed support - that worked well also.

Works Great and easy to use.

Setup was super easy and had wood running through it in less than 20 minutes after opening the box. This is the first planer that I have owned and so far I think it does a great job. I'm using it to plane some rough cut pine for a wall. It takes about 2 passes, due to the cupping in the boards, to get a really smoth finish. Very happy with it so far.

DeWalt's better than Craftsman.

Actually I went to buy a Craftsman planer. Craftsman planer wasn't really what I wanted. I've been dreaming of having a DeWalt planer for a long time. Budget was tight. Shop Vacs Are NOT enough!

Okay, I did a lot of watching Youtube videos and reading reviews so I went ahead and purchased one. Try as I may I couldn't get the snipe under control plus cranking down the head there was some clicking and thumping as it went down with some drops along the way. BUT, the biggest problem was a shop vac, even my new powerful one was not enough to clear the chips away not to mention the bag inside filled very fast. Come to find out I need to spend more money on a more powerful dust collection ...

Armature replaced twice

Purchased three yeas ago for remodeling project in Belize. Brought it with me and it quit working after feeding third piece of hardwood. Authorized DeWalt repair here in Belize diagnosed problem as armature which I ordered from the states and brought back for their installation. Four pieces of hardwood later it stopped again and once again diagnosed as faulty armature. At over $200, plus shipping, handling, customs and tax plus installation repair is not cost effective.
