There is sometimes bending involved if the tines don't have a good enough grip on really young plants, but this tool works great to get them loose to the point where you can pull them easily. I’m not sure if its user error or wrong tool. I am loosening the weed on all 4 sides then using my hands to pry it out. There are coming out but with a lot of muscle and back work. I think I will exchange this one for the other one that you twist
