The CitriStrip Paint & Varnish Stripping Gel is an effective and versatile product for removing multiple layers of paint, varnish, and stains from various surfaces. The product effectively removes coats of paint, varnish, and stains with minimal effort, and works well on a variety of surfaces like wood, metal, and tile. It works but I thought it was water soluble.
Not for basement projects
Would Not RecommendMy basement had carpet and after I pulled it up, there was some kind of adhesive paint around the walls. I applied this with a brush over and waited 30 minutes. Now all I have is a house in fumes and the goo is now stuck on the floor. Now I have to find something else just to get it off my floor.
had pleasant smell
easy to use
This worked GREAT on my deck
Would RecommendThis worked really well on removing two layers of paint from my cedar deck. I don't know why anyone would paint a deck, but I wanted to strip it and stain it properly. I wasn't sure after reading the media reviews, but I slathered it on thickly and covered it with saran wrap in the places that I couldn't get to sanding. I left it on for several hours – – about 7 to 10 hours – – and used a scraper and it came off and a thick easy layer. It wasn't necessarily faster than sanding because then I ha...

Works well
Would RecommendThis stripper works well but it needs to be spreed thickly. Otherwise it requires s lot of scraping. I applied citristrip thickly to the wood cabinets and covered with plastic wrap. I waited 24 hours and then scraped it and old paint off. I then applied mineral oil and rubbed with rag. I rinsed with water. Waited for it to dry and sanded wood. Finally I repainted the cabinets. Lots of work but came out great.
I would buy this product over & over again.
Would RecommendThis product works great stripping paint off of wood.
Fairly good
Would RecommendI had an old chair with several coats of paint that I was trying to remove. I bought this because I thought it would remove the layers of paint relatively easily. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough but the first time I tried 30 minutes and then after that each coat I put on I left on for an hour or longer. It did remove the paint, so maybe I just needed to leave the first coat on longer that suggested on the bottle.
12 square feet of coverage
Would RecommendThe package for the 64 ounce container says 12 ft.² of coverage. This website says 250. Somebody needs to really fix that.
Just Ok.
Works better than the Sherwin Williams options but is still not great.
Stripping made easier
Would RecommendApply to wood cover with plastic, leave over night and scrape off to wood with a putty knife
Put on recommended amounts & cover over night.
Would RecommendI liked that it loosened up the layers of paint off an antique interior door! I used steel wool to get the paint out of wood grain.
