Not enough washers
I bought a connector like this with two female ends in the store for a standard garden hose. Whichever brand is in the store, they manufacturer supplies them with one washer on one side. Both sides are identical female threads, and both sides need washers. That should be obvious. The manufacturer is being cheap. Lowes should tell the manufacturer to put washers in both sides or not buy them.
